Following the recent stakeholders and leaders of the State meeting held on Friday 1st May, 2026, the Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has adopted consensus candidates for all elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that non of the positions shall be contested at the Primaries.
Speaking to Journalists at the end of the meeting, Governor Francis Nwifuru announced that the decision was taken after a long hours stakeholders’ meeting in Abakaliki, describing it as the outcome of extensive consultations within the party. He said the meeting focused on key party matters and charting a unified path toward the forthcoming 2026 elections.
Also addressing the press, Former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, said the consensus arrangement followed wide-ranging consultations initiated by the governor. “For the first time in the history of the state, stakeholders, electorates and party members were fully involved in selecting those who will fly the party’s flag,” he said. He noted that stakeholders, party members, and the electorate were actively involved in the selection process, describing it as a first in the state’s political history. According to him, the agreement means there will be no contest for party tickets in any constituency. Anyim expressed confidence that the inclusive approach would strengthen party unity and improve the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections. He added that the list of consensus candidates will be officially released soon. The meeting, which began in the afternoon, ended late in the night after deliberations on party strategy and candidate selection.
The meeting was attended by former Governors, Present and past national assembly members, former Deputy Governors, former Ambassadors, former Ministers, former Speakers, principal officers of Government, leadership of the State House of Assembly and leaders of APC in Ebonyi State
