The Ebonyi State Coalition of Civil Society organisations have announced plans to sensitize workers at various mining sites in Ebonyi State on health implications of their activities and the way out.
This was announced at the coalition quarterly meeting held on 26th May, 2026 which was attended by over twenty Executive Directors and officials of member organisations.
Speaking at the meeting, the Co-chair of the Coalition, Dr. Kelechukwu Okezie said the programme which shall also feature education support to indigent students in public schools is being sponsored by Chijioke Mercy Foundation through Elder Ogazi.
He explained that the pilot programme has commenced at Umoghara in Ezza North LGA, assuring that with more funding, the project would be implemented in other parts of the State.
Other issues discussed at the meeting was the need for effective collaboration among members of the coalition, ahead of their annual CSO week and summit. There were emphasis on need for thematic working groups, building skills for grant proposal writing, need for regulatory compliance and self assessment for effective performance.
In their remarks, the Secretary of the Coalition, Mrs. Lorrieth Nwafor, the legal team leader, Barr. Uchenna Nwose and a member of the coalition, Prof. Adaeze Nwuzor talked on the need for members to be more active, pay off their financial obligations and the need to always have regular webinars for members benefit.
The coalition of Civil Society organisations in Ebonyi State is an umbrella body of genuine and non governmental CSOs working on various intervention areas in Ebonyi State and beyond.
