Abakaliki Indigenous Medical Doctors’ Extends Hope to Oferekpe Agbaja Community Through Free Medical Outreach

In a heartwarming display of community service, the Abakaliki Indigenous Medical Doctors’ Association (AMDA) led by Dr. Desmond Eze Ekunyi has extended free medical outreach to Oferekpe Agbaja Community in Izzi Local Government Area.

Addressing beneficiaries, stakeholders and people of the community at the free medical outreach programme held on April 26th, 2025, the AMDA President, Dr. Desmond Eze Ekunyi said the free community medical outreach was a way of giving back to their community. He explained that the exercise will be taken to different communities in the local Governments that make up Unwuekumenyi popularly called Abakaliki bloc.

Dr. Eze explained that the exercise was to bringing a comprehensive healthcare services to the doorstep of the rural dwellers to enhance their longevity.

The free medical outreach featured a range of services, including free medical consultation, drug dispensing, eye checks, screening for hepatitis B and C, blood sugar and high blood pressure checks. Additionally, insecticide treated mosquito nets were distributed to participants, and a health sensitisation talk held to educate the community on various health issues and best practices.

Stakeholder including town union president, village Chairmen and others said the commendable act by the Abakaliki Indigenous Medical Doctors’ Association demonstrates their commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Oferekpe community. They stressed that the outreach program is a testament to the power of collective effort and dedication to making positive impact on society, adding that the outreach will long be remembered as a sign of hope and healthcare in the community.

Earlier the chairman of the Association with his team paid a courtesy visit to the Traditional ruler of Oferekpe community, His Royal Highness Eze Ezekiel Nwifuru Nwankpu, who showered deep gratitude and personally thanked AMDA for their selfless service, acknowledging the positive impact of their free medical outreach on the lives of his people.

The people of the community also expressed gratitude to the Association for bringing much needed healthcare services to their doorstep.
