Following his redeployment, Hon. Dr. Donatus Chukwuma Ilang has resumed duty as Ebonyi State Commissioner for Education. The Commissioner who harped on need for Collective Efforts in repositioning the State education sector, vowed to strengthen the priority that Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru placed on primary and secondary Education system in the State.
Dr. Ilang who on assumption of office, took a tour of schools with Abakaliki and other LGAs in Ebonyi North and Central zones, said the visit to schools was not only to monitor the ongoing internal and NECO exams, but to also inspect the infrastructural status of the schools in the State.
He praised Governor Francis Nwifuru for prioritizing the Education sector through salary increment, infrastructural facelift and recruitment of teachers who are currently undergoing documentation in the state secondary Education Board (SEB).
“Inline with His Excellency’s policy thrust, we are going to prioritize quality in our education especially in the areas of monitoring and also in implementing the standard curriculum that will also match with the people’s charter of needs in Education, where we have to ensure that entrepreneurship, skills acquisition and Education for self reliance at all levels is achieved. For us to do this, we have to start from primary and secondary schools, because that is the bases and when we catch them young the feature of Ebonyi will be very bright.
“Education is very important and key to the development of any society and the fundamental key to attaining international standard in Education is by enhancing the primary and secondary Education. That is the basic for Educational knowledge and that is why His Excellency, our dear Governor has prioritize Education because he has seen that it plays a key role to the development of the society”.
The Commissioner expressed reservations on the unkept nature and conducts of students and pupils in some of the schools visited and tasked school management to sit up to their responsibility.
Some of the schools visited by Dr. Ilang and his team include; Girls High school Azuiyiokwu, PRESCO Secondary School Abakaliki, Community Secondary School, Umuoghara, City Salt School in Umuoghara, both in Ezza North Local Government Area, and Izhia Girls High school in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.
Also in the Commissioner’s team for the school inspection were the Special Assistant to the Governor on primary and secondary Education, Hon. Dustan Nwogbaga and the permanent Secretary, Ebonyi State Ministry of Education, Mrs Ngozi Otozi among others.
