Ebonyi CoP Embarks on Advocacy, Tasks CSOs on Regulatory Compliance

To Sensitize Civil Society Organisations on importance of regulatory Compliance, the Ebonyi State steering committee of the community of practice and Global Rights Volunteers have embarked on series of training, sensitizations an advocacy visit to relevant stakeholders in the State with the view to achieving compliance and strengthen regulation for State base registered NGOs.

In one of the trainings held at Dovnet office Abakaliki, members of the steering committee including Dr. Kelechi Okezie, Chief Mrs. Ugo Nnachi, Chief Oliver Ajah Chima and others called on registered non governmental organisations to make it as a point of duty to always file their annual and biannual reports to Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering, EFCC-SCUML and other regulatory bodies.

Global Rights volunteers who were in the meeting, promised to guide CSOs who are not yet regulatory compliance to update their status in CAC, FIRS and others regulatory bodies.

As follow up, the steering committee members and Global Rights volunteers also paid an advocacy visit to the Clerk of the Ebony State House of Assembly, Mrs. Edene to advocate for greater collaboration to strengthen the regulation for state based registration to a one stop model and intimate her on the proposed zonal conference.

In her response, the Clerk of the State House of Assembly, assured the committee that they would review the State laws and ensure that there would not be any restrictions to smooth operations of recognized NGO in the State.

Dr. Kelechi Okezie on behalf of the committee thanked the clerk for the honour and described the visit as fruitful, adding that the deliberations were positive
