Following recent flooding that affected over four thousand farmers in Ikwo Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman of the Council, Hon. Barr Sunday B. Nwankwo has assured victims of the flood disaster that government agencies such as NEMA and SEMA would be reached to further assist them cursion the effects of the disaster. He gave them the assurance while addressing representatives of the flood victims at Ikwo Council headquarters, Onuebonyi Echara.
The Executive Chairman who gave the victims bags of rice, cartons of tomatoes, bags of salt, supergatti and cash gifts, advised them to temporarily relocate from the areas already flooded, stressing that more palliatives would be extended to them later.
Earlier, the SEMA desk officer in the LGA, Mr. Emmanuel Chukwu thanked the Chairman for his prompt response to the plights of the flood victims. He noted that almost all parts of the Council where affected by the flood, adding that those who came to see him were representatives drawn from the twenty Wards in Ikwo LGA.
On their parts, some of the victims, including Mrs. Charity Ogboji from Ekpelu and Pius Nwali from Igbudu among others thanked the Council Chairman for coming to encourage them with the gift, assuring him that his interaction with them was a great relief. They promised to relate the Chairman’s message to other victims of the disaster and called on both the federal and State Government to also come to their assistance.
