The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport has expanded its oversight function and familiarisation visit to the Ebonyi State Transport Corporation to know the activities of the corporation and areas of assistance for more productivity in the transport sector.
Speaking, the chairman of the Committee and member representing Abakaliki South Hon Deacon Joseph Ununu highlighted on the importance of the transport company to the well being of Ebonyi people stressing that it’s services is targeting on revenue generation and better service to Ebonyi people.
Hon Ununu maintained that the visit was to familiarise with the management of the EBOTRANS as a way of knowing thier areas of needs, how to partner for more success and the level of thier achievements in making the transport corporation more productive.
The Committee Chairman commended the State Governor His Excellency builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for purchasing additional twenty buses for the company which he said has contributed immensely in solving transportation problems in the State.
He extolled the administrative ingenuity of the EBOTRANS General Manager which has repositioned the corporation and urged her to continue to ensure fire fighting equipments and standard toilet facilities in all thier parks
Others who contributed include Hon Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri, Hon Oluchukwu Ukie Ezeali, Hon Obinna Mbam, and Hon Victor Nwoke, all implored the Manager of EBOTRANS Mrs Jennifer Nnenna Igwe to furnish the Committee with the activities of the Corporation and expressed the need for the company to have a rapport with the Committee so as to chat a genuine course for rapid development of transport system through the corporation.
They commended the environmental cleanliness of EBOTRANS premises and urge other transport companies in Ebonyi State to emulate them.
Responding, the General Manager of Ebonyi State Transport Corporation Hon. Mrs. Nnenna Jennifer Igwe chronicled the activities of the corporation adding that three weeks intensive training has been organised for drivers to enhance thier efficiency and productivity in the sector.
The EBOTRANS General Manager further stated that under her watch the corporation has ensured prompt payments of workers salaries, gratuities for retirees and safety tips enlightenment to both drivers and passengers, but appealed for continuous partnership with the house committee on transport stating that the purchase of more buses will boost the corporation”s operational efficiency and more-so for the establishment of government owned parks in all thier routes for more effective performances.
In a vote of thanks, the operational manager EBOTRANS Mr Innocent Obiahu Egwu said the timely visit of the Committee was highly appreciated and assured of living up to expectations.
