Following the recent barbaric and unprovoked incident where thirteen innocent Ebonyi indigenes were cold bloodedly killed by unidentified assailants in Ogboji Orumba South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State during their town union meeting, the Executive Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Hon Barr Sunday Basil Nwankwo has joined the government and other Ebonyians to condemn the brutal killing.
Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki, Barr Nwankwo who expressed shock over the sad news, said such brutal murder of harmless and armless Ebonyians who were peacefully having their lawful meeting is quite disheartening and unacceptable. He therefore called for urgent collaborative actions between security agencies and government to ensure that the Perpetrators are fished out for punishment to act as example to others who might attempt such act in future.
He commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his swift actions and response over the issue, adding that Governor Nwifuru’s disposition brought hope and calm among Ebonyians. He also called on Anambra State Governor to expedite actions to arrest the assailants, undertake the welfare of the victims immediate families, and reassurance residents of the State that their safety would be guaranteed going forward.
Barr. Nwankwo who sympathized with families of the victims and the Government of Ebonyi State, prayed God to grant all those affected the strength to bear the unfortunate loss. He called for thorough Investigation and commitment of Anambra State Government to protection of lives and properties of the citizens, irrespective of where they come from, adding that the sanctity of human life should be respected at all time.
While calling on youth to shun crime, the Ikwo Council Boss advised youths to embrace skills and other empowerment opportunities provided by government at all levels, instead of making themselves tools in the hands of the devil to perpetrate crime. He described Ebonyians as peace loving, law abiding and hardworking people who are not known for troubles.
